Shooting Out Of A Sand Trap

If you’ve ever played golf you’ve more than likely found yourself in a bunker or sand trap at one time or another. For less experienced golfers this is a horrible situation as you may get frustrated and you make many attempts and cost yourself many strokes.

But for someone who has learned a few simple basics this is just another shot and opportunity to possibly hit the ball into the hole.

Here’s the deal, when your ball is in the bunker you need to hit into the sand under the ball such that the force of the swing will lift the sand underneath the ball and in turn lifting the ball into the air and hopefully onto the green and into the cup.

The reason the golfer uses a club with a high angle like a nine iron or a sand wedge is because you don’t want to lift the ball straight into the side of the bunker like a flatter club with less angle might do.

Keeping your weight back will also assist you to loft the ball and not to hit it into the side of the bunker or over the green.

Yes, it certainly does take more power to lift the sand but it is something that will make or break your shot successfully out of the bunker.

If you do it right you don’t need to dread hitting into the bunker and while you surely would rather avoid a sand trap you can still make a nice shot if you know how.
