Golf Putting Basics

Straight Putting Basics
Most golfers from beginners to old pros have their own way of putting. However, when getting started in the game of golf or to improve on putting that has gone “awry” there are a few basics to keep in mind. These basics can certainly be considered “well I knew that”, but keep in mind that it is the thing we know that we might be doing a little off kilter that causes us problems with putting. First thing to keep in mind is this – place your feet a comfortable distance from the ball such that an imaginary line could be drawn directly from both of your shoe toe to the middle of the hole. Next – when you eye the ball and the angle of the club face that is to push the ball straight to the cup, be sure that you place the club head directly behind the ball and angle it such that you could again draw a straight line directly from the clubs flat surface to the middle of the cup. Note that both of these first two rules only apply to you putting straight to the cup. Putting somewhere that is not a straight shot to the cup, you know with bends in the green surface, it is completely a different story. These puts require practicing and angling your shots.
Now, the next thing you must do is to hold the club and bend your knees slightly plus your your back and head slightly such that you are looking straight down on the ball. Like with any shot you make in the game of golf concentrate and practice so you will have a feel for how hard you will need to strike the ball and follow straight through to your target.
