Getting The Golf Ball Out Of The Rough

Hitting into the rough is the most common problem a golfer faces. Even the best of us end up in the rough periodically – some more than others of course.
Improving your golf game is all about adjustments and so it is in getting out of that dastardly rough you find yourself in way too often. You can actually get back onto the fairway without costing you any strokes if you go about it in the right way adjusting your shot appropriately.
Getting out of the rough does not take a lot of instruction but it does takes discretion and knowing what adjustments to make. Remember it’s not just a matter of telling yourself not to worry and walking up to the ball and whacking it – that will not work nine times out of ten.
Of course some rough is not very thick and a regular golf swing may do the trick. But when the rough is thick you need to accept a few suggestions that will make the golf club not get caught up in the rough and cause the head of the club to angle the wrong way or to completely miss the ball.
Suggestion one: After assessing the thickness of the rough pick a club that will cut through the rough. Trying something with a sharper edge like a nine iron or such may do the trick. You might even use a lofted wood if you have one. Using a club like the ones suggested allows you to cut through the grass so proper club speed and angle of the hit are not impeded too drastically.
Suggestion two: Position your swing such that your hands are ahead of the club and make a steeper angle of attack keeping your weight forward.
Now, if you happen to be on shorter rough such that the ball is on top of the rough you need to make sure that you are not hitting under the ball because you will just swish it. Best thing to do is consider it like it is on a tee hitting the ball squarely instead of swishing underneath it.
Learning from an expert can really quantify all the things you must do the insure a better shot from the rough but short of learning from a pro these suggestions should help a great deal .
